Its chemical formula is C42H71NO9. The spinosad-producing Saccharopolyspora spinosa Metrz & Yao was originally isolated from an abandoned brewery in the Caribbean. Spinosad has a broad insecticidal spectrum and is active against Lepidoptera and Thysanoptera pests. It also has certain insecticidal activity against some Diptera, Coleoptera, Hymenoptera and other pests.
