Short Description:

Acetamiprid is an organic compound with the chemical formula C10H11ClN4. This odorless neonicotinoid insecticide is produced by Aventis CropSciences under the trade names Assail and Chipco. Acetamiprid is a systemic insecticide used primarily to control sucking insects (Tassel-winged, Hemiptera, and especially aphids) on crops such as vegetables, citrus fruits, nut fruits, grapes, cotton, canola, and ornamentals. Advantages of acetamiprid

High efficiency: acetamiprid has strong touch and penetration effects, and can control pests quickly and effectively.
Broad-spectrum: applicable to a wide range of crops and pests, including common pests in agriculture and horticulture.
Long residual period: can provide long time protection and reduce the frequency of pesticide use.

Acetamiprid mode of action

Acetamiprid is a pyridine nicotine chloride insecticide with strong touch and penetration effects, good rapidity and long residual period. It acts on the posterior membrane of insect nerve junction and binds with acetylcholine receptor, causing extreme excitement, spasm and paralysis until death. Acetamiprid has significant effect on controlling cucumber aphids.

Areas of application of acetamiprid

Acetamiprid is commonly used to protect plants from sucking insects such as aphids, but it is also commonly used for household pest control, especially against bedbugs. As a broad-spectrum insecticide, acetamiprid can be used on everything from leafy vegetables and fruit trees to ornamentals. It is very effective against whiteflies and small flies, with both contact and systemic action. Its excellent trans-laminar activity controls hidden pests on the underside of leaves and has an ovicidal effect. Acetamiprid is fast acting and provides long term pest control.

Specific applications of acetamiprid

Acetamiprid can be used on a wide variety of crops and trees including leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, grapes, cotton, canola, grains, cucumbers, melons, onions, peaches, rice, drupes, strawberries, sugar beets, tea, tobacco, pears, apples, peppers, plums, potatoes, tomatoes, houseplants and ornamentals. In commercial cherry growing, acetamiprid is the key pesticide because it is effective against the larvae of the cherry fruit fly. Acetamiprid is used in foliar sprays, seed treatments and soil irrigation. It is also included in bed bug control programs.

Safety of acetamiprid

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has classified acetamiprid as “not likely to be carcinogenic to humans”. EPA has also determined that acetamiprid poses a lower risk to the environment than most other insecticides. Acetamiprid is rapidly degraded in soil through soil metabolism and is less toxic to mammals, birds and fish.
